Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer

Serving Tourism, Business and the Kimberley community, Broome International Airport (BIA) has approximately 400,000 passengers through its gates each year, making it one of the busiest regional airports in WA and Australia. 

BIA treats safety in the workplace as its No.1 Priority, and one of its key company values is no compromise on safety.  We are seeking to employ an experienced and skilled Workplace Health and Safety Officer who will report directly to the CEO, to oversee the establishment of occupational health and safety strategies, assess risks to health and safety and develop techniques to avoid accidents and injuries.

KEY DUTIES:

  • Promoting healthy and safe working methods and practices in the workplace.
  • Ensuring state-of-the-art health and safety compliance across the whole organisation.
  • Identifying, recording and reporting hazards, accidents, injuries and health issues.
  • Assisting with investigation of accidents, studying possible causes and providing remedial advice.
  • Conducting health and safety training sessions for management, supervisors and workers.
  • Assisting with rehabilitation of workers after accidents and overseeing their successful return to work.
  • Developing OHS plans and monitoring compliance.
  • Develop inter departmental training modules in conjunction with department managers assistance.
  • Inspecting workplace and related tools and equipment to ensure compliance with regulations.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Cert 4 in Workplace Training and Assessment
  • Qualifications in Work Health and Safety (Diploma//Cert IV)
  • 12 months experience working within a Health and Safety environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer software skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management, planning and organisation skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply policy and procedures that meet legislative requirements in regard to Health, Safety and Environment
  • Strong influencing skills and an ability to develop internal networks and trust with on-site teams

Applicants must be able to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) and pass a medical and drug alcohol test (DAMP) test.
