Two contractors in the NT claim they were instructed to continue spraying contaminated drill rig water for up to five days, despite knowing its hazardous nature.

Tamboran Resources has refuted the allegations, saying that the spraying of contaminated water ceased after just one day.

The Northern Territory Environmental Protection Authority (NT EPA) concurs with the gas company, asserting that no contaminants of concern have been detected.

The issue came to light when Tamboran Resources identified an overfilled drilling water dam at its Maverick 1 gas well on Tanumbirini Station in September of last year.

In response, workers were instructed to lower the dam level.

Frank, an experienced gas worker who requested anonymity due to career concerns, claims that he was directed by Tamboran to persistently spray the contaminated water.

Another worker, Jim, has corroborated Frank's claims, stating that he too was ordered to continue spraying contaminated water for three to five days in a rush to eliminate the excess water before government inspectors arrived.

Concerns have also been raised about potential environmental consequences and worker health.

A Tamboran Resources spokesperson has firmly refuted the workers' allegations, which it describes as “false”.
