The NSW Government’s digitisation push is now targeting high-risk work licences.

New South Wales minister for customer service and digital government Victor Dominello says the licences are up for the digitisation treatment, saying around 5,300 “High Risk Work Licences are renewed every month – that is more than 63,600 a year.”

The state says many trade tickets and licences require some sort of repeated medical, legal and background checks, and could be enhanced by going digital.

“To renew a High Risk Work Licence, you need to print out and complete a paper renewal at Australia Post. Paper forms and in-person renewal lodgement are time-intensive, labour-intensive processes and take time away from you doing your job and spending it with family,” Mr Dominello said.

“It also requires a new photo - that is an additional cost. This would be a better, faster and cheaper customer experience as a digital experience.”

The Queensland government has successfully trialled digital verification of various work credentials, but reports say the future of that initiative is now unclear.
