SafeWork SA has launched a state-wide compliance campaign for violence and aggression in the retail sector.

Many workers within the retail sector are young, work in isolation and may be unfamiliar with managing aggressive customers.

Work-related violence and aggression are sadly common in retail, with workers being verbally abused, threatened or physically assaulted.

SafeWork SA says it wants to ensure a safe work environment free from hazards for these workers, and is sending its inspectors to audit retail outlets both in metropolitan and regional areas.

Audits will be undertaken to ensure that businesses have appropriate policies and procedures in place to address the risk of violence and aggression, relevant training for workers, and suitable control measures in place to protect workers.

If workers wish an advisor to attend their workplace, they can complete the Advisory Service Request Form.
