Efforts are being taken to reduce risks from the demolition of Port Augusta's decommissioned Northern Power Station.

Controlled explosions have brought down a coal bunker and conveyor transfer towers to a height that ground teams can handle.

Authorities have been spraying water over the area of the latest demolitions to keep down the spread of coal dust.

An exclusion zone covering both land and sea was imposed before earlier explosions that destroyed the 80-metre-high main chimney stack of the old power station.

South Australia’s EPA says it was on site to monitor dust emissions using hand held dust monitoring equipment.

The EPA reported on its protection orders relating to the Port Augusta site, including the ongoing dust check requirements, available here in PDF form.
