The Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board has put its stamp of approval on the occupational health and safety programs offered at Curtin University.

Curtin’s Graduate Diploma and Masters of Occupational Health and Safety have been granted accreditation after a big overhaul of the study program.

While Curtin has provided OHS professional education for several years, the university has now revised its post graduate program to strongly differentiate OHS programs from other disciplines at the School of Public Health.

The structure of the units and assessment tasks have been revises so as to emphasise links with real workplaces, while research methods and projects will more closely reflect the real requirements of OHS professionals in the workplace.

The Registrar of the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board, Pam Pryor, has commened Curtin, saying the accreditation panel was impressed with the uni’s constructive approach and ability to bring in change over a short period.

Dr Helen Brown, Director of Health Safety and Environment at Curtin, says the accreditation is an important milestone that will bring significant benefits to Curtin graduates.

Curtin’s OHS programs include a Bachelor of HSE, which had already achieved OHS accreditation, and the Graduate Diploma and Masters in OHS.

The Curtin double degree of Bachelor of HSE and Bachelor of Health Promotion is being considered for future accreditation.
