National Safety & Wellbeing Lead

What are we looking for?

We are on the hunt for a positive, energetic, and common-sense driven National Safety and Wellbeing Lead to join our HR Team. You will be responsible for driving all things safety, workers compensation and wellbeing across our national retail store network and our Altona Distribution Centre (DC). Our people are our most important asset and keeping them safe is our number one priority – this role will support the achievement of this through safety compliance via the appropriate training, policy and processes being practiced across the business. Someone also with previous experience with Industrial relations and HR would also be advantageous.

What you’ll do…

Every day at Brand Collective involves something new and exciting, however your day could look something like this….
  • Be responsible for developing and reviewing all WHS policies and procedures to meet business requirements in line with relevant legislation. You will also coordinate all WHS communication within the business.
  • Provide accurate and timely information, education and training to employees and managers regarding legislative requirements, entitlements or obligations in the area of WHS, rehabilitation, return to work and compensation systems across the business nationally.
  • Review, analyse and present all reporting and safety data analysis to the Senior Leadership Team and Board in line with legislative and compliance requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support as needed on all RTW activities to facilitate the prompt return to work of injured or ill workers to appropriate duties in-line with medical advice and clearances to return to work (RTW).
  • Assist and advise our retail store network and DC on all WHS activities covering incident management, inspections, audits, reporting, systems, training, policies and procedures
  • Ensure document retention of site system documents and records of compliance with procedures and policies are managed in line with legislation.
  • Work with the Payroll and HRIS Manager to liaise with Workers Compensation insurers as required.
  • Drive wellbeing initiatives across the business from “step challenges” to boot camps, flu vacs and anything in between!
  • The ability to interpret and provide advice and guidance on matters pertaining to employment legislation, awards and EBAs to the HR Coordinator and DC Manager will also be required from time to time. Therefore, an IR background would be advantageous.
Who you are & what you’ve done…

You are enthusiastic with a “can do” attitude – someone who “gets” safety, but also understands the fast pace of a retail environment and can find ways to ensure safety is assured simultaneously as the delivery of KPIs. You have been in a Safety role previously, perhaps as part of your HR requirements and ideally have had some ER/IR exposure. Perhaps though you are now looking for that next step to own the function with the support of the wider People and Culture team.

Further to this you also;
  • Are upbeat, energetic & motivated - you make the best out of any situation!
  • Have a strong knowledge and understanding of WHS/OHS legislation and Workers Compensation claims management
  • Have a demonstrated ability and experience in the management of return to work of workers with the aim to reduce the impact on the individual and the organisation
  • Have previous experience in the implementation, maintenance and review of safety management systems and safety audits
  • Have some experience in ER/IR and are able to interpret legislation and EBAs with confidence
  • Are confident with strong verbal and written communication skills, with a coaching and mentoring style to educate and share knowledge
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and modify style to accommodate those around you
  • Ideally, you have worked within a retail environment before, and/or a Supply Chain/Warehouse environment and understand the risks and challenges associated with both
  • You will have a Diploma or equivalent in WHS/OHS or related qualification.
This role is full time and will be based 3 days per week at the Altona Distribution Centre, with the remainder of the week out in our retail stores, or at our HQ in Port Melbourne. A driver’s license and reliable car is a must for this role!
