Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Completed in 2017, the new medium-security men's prison is located in Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west, providing world-class forensic mental health services in Victoria in a purpose-built state of the art facility developed to international best practice standards.

 About the role:
The Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Worker aims to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal patients engaged through the Forensic Mental Health Services at Ravenhall Correctional Centre. The position will work with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the provision of high quality and culturally sensitive health care for Aboriginal patients.

The Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Worker will work with Aboriginal patients using the Forensicare Boon-Gim Ngaga (Deep Understanding) Social and Emotional Wellbeing Assessment Package. This package assists patients to develop culturally safe Recovery goals. They will also work with other partner services and programs across Ravenhall Correctional Centre to ensure the development and implementation of effective discharge plans upon release to the community.

 About you:
This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

You have experience in engaging with Aboriginal people and communities, with a high level of understanding and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and the issues affecting Aboriginal people. You have a demonstrated commitment to mental health Recovery principles and improving social and emotional wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities.

You have well developed organisational and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with a range of people, and good computer literacy and administrative skills.

A Certificate and or experience in in Health, Mental Health, Disability , Alcohol and Other Drug, or other relevant field will be an advantage.
