Come and expand and tap into the knowledge of a large and collaborative team of environmental health experts and assist in promoting and monitoring health standards in the world’s most liveable City.

 

The position… is part of a dedicated team responsible for promoting and monitoring environmental health standards in Melbourne's food industry. You will play an important role in ensuring Melbourne's reputation as the restaurant capital of Australia is upheld.  You will be required to administer responsibilities under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act and Food Act by conducting compliance assessments, inspections, investigating complaints and undertaking food and water sampling.

 

There is also the opportunity to work on a variety of events held in Melbourne, including the Royal Melbourne Show, AFL Grand Final and the Spring Racing Carnival as well as undertaking proactive project work with local businesses.

 

This role does require you to work non-standard hours as required and you will require a current, full Victorian driver's license.

 

You will have… (selection criteria)

 

  • Bachelor of Health Science  (Public and Environmental Health) or equivalent including eligibility to be a member of Environmental Health Professionals Australia.
  • Proven ability to work as an effective team member, input into team processes, actively and positively contribute to team goals, and demonstrate positive behaviours and attitudes within the team environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to apply relevant legislation and corporate procedures and policies;
  • High level understanding of customer service principles and practice, and demonstrated ability to apply those principles to internal and external customer interaction;
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with all levels of staff, the general public, and commercial and professional stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work in a time pressured environment, meeting multiple deadlines with a high level of initiative, motivation and innovation.
