The Position… is responsible for maintaining a high standard of public and environmental health through the administration of responsibilities under the relevant acts and other public health legislation, and City of Melbourne policies.

 

The Officer will perform the duties of an authorised officer under the Food Act 1984 and the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, including conducting compliance assessments, assessing new food business applications, and undertaking food and water sampling.

 

This position also provides an important link between practical field experience and ensuring effective policies, practices and procedures are in place, and is responsible for the coordination and project management of a portfolio in order to provide a pro-active approach to public health and environmental issues.

 

The successful candidate will use their well-developed judgement and discretion to ensure Council meets its legislative public health obligations. The role requires excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, high level experience in project management and teamwork, research and analysis.

 

You will have… (selection criteria)

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent plus experience in the field of environmental health
  • Demonstrated ability to apply relevant legislation and Corporate policies and procedures together with proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead groups, act in a semi-autonomous environment and work as a team member
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and practices with demonstrated ability to research, develop and deliver projects/programs based on identified needs.
