We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Principal Research Fellow in Occupation Health and Safety (OH&S) to join our multi-disciplinary team on a fixed term contract based in Mackay. 

Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine (AITHM)

The Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine (AITHM) is a newly-established health research institute within James Cook University that is funded by both state and federal governments. AITHM’s focus is on research in tropical health and medicine across a wide range of disciplines, with a particular focus on northern Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the Pacific.

Your role

A dedicated professional in your field, the Senior/Principal Research Fellow, OH&S reports to the Director, AITHM and will work closely with the Acting Director of the Mackay Institute of Research and Innovation (MIRI) to undertake research in the area of occupational health and safety.

 Providing leadership in the area of OH&S research, you will be responsible for driving the AITHM research agenda in OH&S to develop and manage an OH&S program with a focus on mental health in the workplace in tropical Australia.   

 Based in Mackay, which is a major hub for tropical agriculture and a residential base for the mining industry’s fly-in-fly-out workforce, you will work collaboratively with a range of key stakeholders including local industry and health professionals to develop close relationships in order to inform AITHM’s research agenda

You will enjoy working in a small, dynamic community based team as you provide technical leadership of multidisciplinary project teams to develop and implement project plans as well as resource management, scheduling, reporting and presentation of project outcomes.
