About The Role

As the Safety Manager, your role exists to support the implementation of an integrated safety management strategy and system across the region. The role will help the site teams in achieving a step change in their Safety performance. The Safety Manager will develop and deliver a behavioural based safety program to achieve a 25% YOY improvement of TRIFR and LTIFR.

Drawing on your passion for safety, this role will also focus on delivering a reduction in workplace injuries, improvement in “root cause analysis” and proactive risk management strategies for all DC’s.

Additional responsibilities will include, however not be limited to:

  • Supporting the rollout of Woolworths Supply Chain Safety Strategy, Safety Management System and SHE Plans in the region.

  • Assisting with implementation of policies and procedures, safety and health programs, systems, tools and training to support compliance and assurance.

  • Coaching functional and line managers in the implementation and continuous improvement of SE performance and risk management.

  • Proactive participation in carrier engagements, senior incident reviews and provide solutions that meet Supply Chain’s expectations.

  • Providing advice and support to managers in safety-related matters, including incident investigations and hazard/risk management.

  • Fostering an environment where SE is considered in all management processes within the DC and within which SE operates as a core business value

  • Promoting and championing a positive SE culture within the region and ensure a safe working environment

  • Providing assistance and direction in best in class hazard management practices.

  • Lead the development of appropriate stakeholder management network meetings.

  • Represent Supply Chain at industry association meetings and presentations and ensure that “best practices” are implemented where recognised.

  • Implementing and providing assistance in the use of SE systems.

  • Collecting and disseminating relevant SE data in support of SE initiatives and reporting.

  • Complying with safety policies, procedures and role responsibilities as defined in the Supply Chain Safety Management System Procedure SHE-Proc-L-004.1”SHE Responsibilities”.

  • Ensure all relevant business accreditations, licences, permits, systems within the scope of the position are maintained.

  • Ensure key management system and operational procedures are documented and maintained.

  • Ensure a robust document control process is in place for both National and specific site based documents.

  • Embed the safety management systems at all locations in your control.

  • Responsible for the integrity/accurate data in Pulse and QlikView.

  • Interpret and action where appropriate trends Nationally.

  • Lead Regional SE Operational Plan.

  • Participate in the development of the Supply Chain SWE Plan.

  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints; evaluate problems and take appropriate action to resolve issues and concerns.

  • Lead or participate in key Supply Chain projects where requested.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement of national systems and processes for the National Safety Team.

  • Maintaining continuous learning through affiliation with industry groups & legislative updates.

  • Ensuring adherence to the SH&E Events Schedule and objectives in the National SH&E Plan.

  • Ability to manage self to complete recurring work & special projects.

  • Time Management and project prioritisation skills.

  • Effective communication skills including written & spoken.

  • Ability to build relationships and be persuasive with regard to all levels of management.

  • Demonstrate leadership within all aspects within the scope of the role.

  • People skills in servicing and influencing

  • Understanding of the logistics Industry and business drivers.

  • Understanding of the Chain Of Responsibility framework

  • Understanding of the legislative framework, standards and codes of practice relevant

  • Maintain knowledge of Dangerous Goods and Occupational Health & Safety policies / procedures.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the area of OHS.

  • Minimum of Diploma level in associated safety discipline.
