South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) provides research and development services to the state government, commercial clients and research partners to help make South Australia’s primary industries and regions internationally competitive and ecologically sustainable. SARDI’s programs are designed to increase the productivity, sustainability and adaptability of the state’s agriculture, food and wine, fisheries and aquaculture and bioscience enterprises, create opportunities for market growth, address barriers to growth and provide applied solutions.

Duties:

The Research Scientist – Food Technology Sub-program leader is accountable to the Program Leader, Food Safety and Innovation, and ensures the timely delivery of high quality research outcomes to Government, industry clients and the community. Ability to identify opportunities, conceive and develop food technology programs and research projects and oversee their development for funding and delivery. Expert knowledge of areas pertaining to food technology such as product development, packaging, shelf-life evaluation and extension, food safety, chemistry or nutrition. Exceptional conceptual and analytical skills, including problem solving, that produce outcomes of critical impact. Excellent communication skills to engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders and represent the Food Technology Sub-program leads the Food Technology Sub-program including oversight of the budget of the Sub-program. Supervises a multi-disciplinary work unit including supervision of professional and/or technical staff. Mentors and develops junior staff and students.

Essential Qualifications:

A relevant degree in food science or technology, with post-graduate qualification or equivalent experience. 

Special Conditions:

Some out of hours work, weekend, public holidays work will be required. Intrastate, interstate and international travel will be required.  A current Class C driver’s licence is essential.
