About the role

The role of Research Coordinator is to support the management of the research portfolio and Division's operating plan, which comprises a wide variety of research activities and has a budget of approximately $2.5 Million annually. 

The role sits within the Research Division, within the Innovation & Insights Business Unit. This is a crucial strategic and senior role in the Division, working closely with senior management and key stakeholders.  The research portfolio provides knowledge and evidence to all parts of WorkSafe to support strategic and transformation activities related to WorkSafe 2030 - enabling WorkSafe to be a prevention-led and client centered organisation.   

The Division is responsible for the governance of research activities, research strategy and planning, and research translation and partnerships.  This role works closely with the Director of Research and other senior members of the Research Division to deliver the functions of the Division.  Occasional travel may be required. 

Some key accountabilities; 

  • Develop detailed Research Operating Plan (currently approximately 60 projects) and Research Strategy by closely engaging with Director, Research and internal partners.
  • Implement and monitor alignment to research strategy research projects each year.
  • Assess funding and co-funding opportunities for research, advising Research Director on ideal research provider for projects.
  • Work closely with Research Specialists to assess and prioritize new research requests from the business, providing technical expertise as required to design and scope projects.
  • Liaise and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Holds oversight of end-to-end design, translation and evaluation of research projects which involves undertaking planning and coordination of project delivery with ISCRR management; oversight of delivery by ISCRR and commercial providers on approximately 70-80 research projects each year.
  • Key point of contact for internal and external partnerships.

About you

You will have strong research, management and negotiation skills and will communicate effectively to influence key internal and external stakeholders. You have a proven ability to work through uncertainty, changing priorities and to undertake complex tasks. 

More specifically you will have;

  • Demonstrated sophisticated conceptual and analytical skills and ability to critically appraise research, identify concerns and develop solutions.
  • Experience in managing the procurement of research services through tendering, contracting and quotation processes.
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills and ability to negotiate with and influence senior management, internal stakeholders and industry partners.
  • Ability to assist less experienced team members to deliver research projects on time, within budget and with high quality outputs, as required to deliver the Research Division's operating plan.
  • Ability to strategically project manage a diverse portfolio, by managing multiple timelines, complex tasks, varying team workloads and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated application of qualitative, quantitative, and/or evaluative research skills, applied in various research contexts including public sector organisations.
  • Demonstrated use of technical skills to develop applied, solutions-focused research projects for business purposes.
  • Proven ability to translate research findings and extract knowledge and insights for use by decision makers.
  • Exemplary project management, presentation and writing skills, strong attention to detail and superior interpersonal skills.
