About the role  

This position is to support the ongoing maintenance and review and undertake ongoing assurance of the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Management System (HSWMS) developed to ISO 45001:2018 the international standard for Safety Management Systems and provision of safety advice or support as a first point of call. The Safety Advisor is crucial to the goal of ensuring key information is available, disseminated and analysed for ongoing continual improvement.  This role also supports integration of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) initiatives and People and Culture based programs within WorkSafe to cultivate a proactive HSW culture, undertaking assurance activities in the HSW Management System; and assisting with the improvement of system capability including statistical analysis.

The Safety Advisor is crucial to the goal of ensuring key information is available, disseminated and analysed for the ongoing continual improvement of the HSWMS.  This role supports the integration of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) initiatives and People and Culture based programs within WorkSafe to cultivate a proactive HSW culture, undertaking assurance activities and assisting with the improvement of system capability including statistical analysis. 

Key accountabilities:

  • Support the Safety and Compliance Lead with the ongoing review and continuous improvement of the HSWMS which includes:
  • Coordination of safety activities and consultation programs with a focus on continuous improvement including the establishment of focus groups, ensuring ISO 45001:2018 standards are adhered to and risks are identified and controlled.
  • Development, implementation and review of HSW guidelines, processes, tools and documentation with a focus on improving safety systems of work and minimising safety risks across the organisation.
  • Work with the Learning and Development team to design and develop safety training modules to continually enhance the HSWMS training program, in addition to delivering face to face safety training to subject matter experts, such as the inspectorate ensuring compliance with the HSWMS.
  • Complete internal HSWMS audits across the organisation including internal work area inspection programs.
  • Undertake statistical analysis on internal data, research trends, develop and present reports and monitor compliance to the HSWMS.

About you

You are an experienced Safety Advisor with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Regulatory framework and compliance requirements.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety management systems, assurance and continual improvement principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety systems implementation and monitoring within a complex organisation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of ISO 18001 or 45001 and / or quality management principles.
  • Strong understanding and capability to produce WHS data analysis to measure performance and implementation.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and consultation skills.

Qualifications

  • Graduate Diploma or Diploma in OHS.
  • Lead Auditor in Safety or Quality systems.
  • Certificate 4 Workplace training and assessment (Desirable)
