Safety Advisor

The success of Brida Pty Ltd plays a critical financial role in supporting Ngarliyarndu Bindirri Aboriginal Corporation (NBAC), which is a corporation that has been operating since 1970 and works to deliver wellbeing and self-determination for all Ngarliyarndu (Aboriginal people associated with Roebourne and the coastal Pilbara).

The Role: 

The objective of the Safety Advisor is to advise and support Management and staff in providing a safe workplace. 

To work with the Safety Manager by supporting the site supervisors in the development and implementation of health and safety procedures in the workplace and compliance with all health and safety legislation applicable to the business. 

Some key Responsibilities of the role include:        

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Assist the Safety Manager to ensure the company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, environment and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting. 
  • Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations. 
  • Ensure that health, safety and environment inspections are carried out and are correctly reported. Risk assessments and procedures are maintained and employees are aware of their responsibilities. 
  • Assist in the development of health, safety and environment policies, systems of work and procedures. 
  • Assist and support Supervisors with all hazard assessment tools, including but not limited to JHAs, SWPs, CCCs, Take 5s.
  • Develop effective and positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Collate required HSE performance data for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Support the Operations Manager in managing appropriate levels of safety tools, equipment and PPE.
  • Ensure that all incidents are investigated as per existing incident management processes, and incident reporting timeframes are met.


  • Support Managers and Supervisors with incident investigation and reporting.
  • Conduct regular HSE audits and report to Safety Manager on results.
  • Support Supervisors and Managers in the delivery of staff inductions, including but not limited to client specific inductions and Brida inductions.
  • Ensure that breathalyser units are regularly audited and any anomalies and discrepancies reported immediately.


  • Assist the Safety Manager in developing, schedule, coordinate and deliver regular HSE toolbox meetings and workshops across all teams.
  • Support the Supervisors in the provision of HSE training sessions to their teams.
  • Develop and deliver health, safety and environment training programs including but not limited to hazard management, new HSE processes, accident investigation, manual handling, SWPs and fire safety.


  • Communicate effectively and regularly with all Managers and Supervisors in a professional manner.
  • Be an informal spokesperson for the team, listening to team members issues and grievances.
  • Assist the Managers and Supervisors in creating a positive team culture and morale.
  • Undertake any other reasonable task as requested by the Safety Manager.

Ideally you will have worked with indigenous communities and diverse groups before and have a thorough understanding and respect of cultural protocols. 


  • Minimum WHS Certificate IV or equivalent. 
  • Demonstrated experience in similar/Supervisory role. 
  • Demonstrated experience within a mining or civil construction environment. 
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical assessment & drug and alcohol Screen. 
  • Ability to travel and have a flexible approach to working hours. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of workplace training. 
  • Respect and understanding of confidentiality and privacy.
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
  • Understanding and respect for Indigenous culture.
  • Commitment to working with and helping people from different background and cultures.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Full and valid C Class Driver’s License.


  • Previous experience and Qualification in Auditing 
  • Strong relationship management and networking skills 
  • Experience working with Aboriginal people
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment.
