Western Australia has confirmed that there were no fatalities in the state’s mines in 2012, marking the first time in over a century that the state’s mining sector has escaped without a single death.

State Minister for Mines and Petroleum, Norman Moore, commended the work of industry in notching up the safest year on record for the sector, while stressing that more must be done to maximise safety and efforts should not be relaxed.

Mr Moore reiterated the Government’s commitment to OHS in the state’s mines, saying that it remains a high priority.
