The South Australian Government has launched a new campaign aimed at promoting workplace safety by encouraging workers to share their reasons for staying safe at work.

“For most South Australians, the best reasons for staying safe at work are their families friends and loved ones,” State Industrial Relations Minister John Rau said.

“The Share Your Reason campaign, which begins today, asks South Australians to consider the real cost of workplace injuries and fatalities.

“Safework SA is encouraging South Australians to get involved in the campaign and upload an image of their best reason for staying safe.”

This might be a photo of people, places, hobbies or pets.

Mr Rau said that despite increased awareness, workplace injuries and fatalities remain an all too common occurrence.

“Whilst South Australia has exceeded the national 10-year target to reduce workplace injuries and fatalities – one workplace fatality is one too many,” Mr Rau said.

“National data shows that more than 250 workers in Australia die from an injury sustained at work each year, with a further 2000 workers dying from work-related illnesses annually,” Mr Rau said.
