The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) has claimed that up to half of the accidents and injuries that occur on building sites in Canberra are not being reported as required under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

Dean Hall from the CFMEU told the ABC that under-reporting of incidents, particularly in the civil construction sector, was an ongoing problem. He cited an accident in December when a worker at a housing development suffered serious spinal injuries when a roller he was driving tipped over.

The CFMEU says the incident was reported, but the injuries were not, and is calling on the recently reappointed ACT Work Safety Commissioner, Mark McCabe, to lay charges against  the contractor.
