Safe Work Australia has announced the finalists for the 7th annual Safe Work Australia Awards, with Chair Tom Phillips commending them for their efforts in reducing workplace death, injury and disease in Australia.

“The national Awards showcase the achievements of everyday Australians who have made a difference to work health and safety” said Mr Phillips.

A total of 37 finalists from a wide range of industries have been entered into this year’s awards.

“Record entry numbers in many of the state and territory awards has ensured this year’s national Award entries are of a very high calibre.”

“This year’s entries show the ongoing commitment and improved leadership businesses and individuals show in work health and safety.”

The finalists are winners of their state, territory or the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission 2011 work health and safety awards and will now compete across four categories in the national Awards.

Mr Phillips is chairing the independent awards judging panel that reviews and determines the winners.

Winners will be announced at the 7th annual Safe Work Australia Awards ceremony in Canberra on Thursday 26 April 2012.
