Aldi says its Spiral Spring Mixer Tap is safe for use.

Aldi Australia CEO Tom Daunt announced this week that the taps had passed additional safety tests triggered by reports the taps could create lead contamination.

“I am pleased to announce that we have just received confirmation from independent, accredited and certified testing laboratories, that the Spiral Spring Mixer Tap meets all Australia/New Zealand 4020 tests for WaterMark certification,” Mr Daunt said.

Aldi said the tests were in line with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

“I can assure you that as soon as this matter was brought to ALDI's attention, we initiated a priority investigation,” Mr Daunt said.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly with authorities and independent testing laboratories to confirm that the tests conducted prior to sale were accurate, and the product is safe.”

Mr Daunt criticised the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) for bringing the issue to light in the way that it did.

“The QBCC published statements about the safety of the tap based on tests they had carried out that were not conducted in accordance with the Australian Standard and were not conducted by an appropriately accredited laboratory,” he said.
